I Am Being Tested

I am going through a tough period right now, but I am seeing great opportunities for the this new year. I will not really kick-it off, until the Asian new year, thinking about the Metal Ox. I will come back to my 3+ words for this year, in the near future. My main focus is to finish the work with my ”last,” site, and launch TeaParty.Media as soon possible. For the record: the name Tea Party Media is not associated with a political party or the modern tea party movement in any form, shape or manner. That said, I will continue to publish posts and episodes on politics and the tea party movement. I will also talk about what happened at the Boston Tea Party in 1773. In this day and age, it is more than ever an important issue to understand the history, and learn from it, don’t you think?

As podcaster, I have become a beta tester for a service, so you will see more ”note from the editor” (i.e., yours truly), in the near future. I will also test out new podcasting tools, now and then. And you will hear me talking about the so called podcasting movement and The Podcasting Academy in the future. Recently it was an article in the mainstream media in Sweden, about getting paid as a podcaster and that listeners will have to pay in order to listen to podcasts. I will comment on this notion, and come up with a service and product, during this year.

I have to catch up with the show notes for the latest episodes, search for a affordable transcript service, and plan for new guests on my show. My goal is to continue with the broadcasts on Happs.

On a personal note: I am wondering if I have light version of BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). It is called ”crystal disease” in Swedish. Related episode: Wobbly Wrap Before Summer Break.

Maybe episode number 120 has a positive ring to it, what do you think? I searched on Google and found a site called Affinity Numerology. Should I test the chocolate-covered recipes, Amish style, that is displayed on the site?

Freedom of the Press and Time for George Washington Day

Don’t you think it is time to celebrate George Washington Day on February 22? Read Allan C. Miller’s piece, A Presidents Day perspective on the nature of a free press. I have had the following quote from George Washington (March 15, 1783) on my Facebook page:

“the freedom of Speech may be taken away—and, dumb & silent we may be led, like sheep, to the Slaughter.”

From George Washington’s Mount Vernon page on the National Gazette (established in 1791):

“George Washington's support for a free press and the First Amendment ironically helped to make the National Gazette possible.”

I will talk about tech stuff on Tuesday. It could be an app, a gadget, etc. I recently did a talk at a podcasting conference in Stockholm, Sweden. I then used the presentation tool called Haiku Deck. As I searched Google News, I found out that Haiku Deck is now acquired by BookRags, an ”edtech” company in Seattle. I am interested to learn about Adam Tratt’s new ventures in the future, and how BookRags will develop Haiku Deck in the years to come.

I miss the general, high level of customer service from my time in the United States of America. In this episode I will talk about the development of customer service to an experience, and how we could be approached by customer experience ambassadors in the future. I start out with sharing experiences from an after work gathering with a couple of friends. As you know, gather(ing) is one my three words for 2019.

As a new media advisor I want to give potential clients the idea that you start out with content as the king, and then move on with the context as the queen (of the chess game / your social media activities). I am for a constitutional republic, so I had to add a president to the mix. The president of the organization, should have a two-way communication plan in place. He or she should be present 24/7 through representatives of the brand / company / organization.

Amplifying Good Stories on the Internet

Yesterday I watched the documentary, Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story. It was a fascinating story about an actress who was an inventor. If you are using a Wi-Fi network in order to listen to this episode on your mobile, or reading the show notes, you should send a mental thank-you note through the airways to Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler. After watching the documentary, I wondered how the U.S. Navy could miss the opportunity to use her invention of a secure radio guidance system.

I then got thinking about the dangerous situation regarding the freedom of speech on the net, and how forces are trying to control, regulate and even doing a shutdown of the whole system.

The Backpack for Podcasters

I will start out with saying that I am giving myself the flexibility of the time zone stamp of the recording and publishing of an episode, in order to stay on track. I am located in the Central European Time zone, but I am often working according to the Eastern Standard Time, giving me a buffer of 6 hours. If I want to stretch it, I could include American Samoa into the game, and add 3 more hours to my daily worklife. ;)

I want to make a correction to the previous episode. I mixed up Amy Peikoff’s news sandwich and started out with the bad news, then the good news item, and ending with another bad news. It should be two good news ideas (the bread), and only one bad piece, sandwiching it between the two pieces of ”bread”…

I am including screen dumps from the recording of this episode, using the new Backpack Studio app. With this app, I will be able to record the solo shows in an easy way. I learned about this app from listening to Libsyn’s official podcast. Back then it was called Boss Jock Studio. I will talk more about this app in future episodes, telling you about my experiences with the new app, features, etc.

Just in Time for a Break

As I am in the process of publish my first book on tea, I plan for launching a tea party, a late summer break, and a kick-start of a new career path as an author and a guide on how to make the perfect cuppa.

I have created an account on CreateSpace and I have ordered 10 International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) from the National Library of Sweden. I will order a small print-on-demand batch from a local printer in Gothenburg. When I have a copy of the hardcover book in my hand, I will take some time and celebrate. I got very inspired by the episode, Taking Breaks, of Creative Minds podcast.

This has been a long journey from tinkering on the topic, writing, and self-publishing the book. And now it is time to think about the launch and marketing of the book. After I had published the latest blog post, Remembering the Copper Pot, I watched a webinar with Tim Grahl. I had bought his first book, Your First 1000 Copies, around the same time (2013) I got the idea to write a book on tea. I am now going through Tim’s course, Launch a Bestseller.

For your information, I have the following individuals in the pipeline as future guests: Carina Ridenius, Brian Phillips, and a follow-up conversation with Jon Ferrara.

I have come to the conclusion that I will shoot for at least one episode per month of this podcast, as I am involved in so many other podcasts at the moment (Aviani, Hemberedskap, Management Studio, MenyPodden, Pen Meets Paper, Produktivitéet, PoddRadio), as a host, co-host, and a producer.

With that said, and to show that I have a Message, I am planning a new podcast together with an individual, working in an industry that could be interesting for my fellow podcasters and other content creators. I will never stop learning, so I will also start another podcast on tea.

Talking about learning, I am eager to learn more about tea, but I am not sure that I will become a tea sommelier, or tea master in the near future… I am planning to take some more courses, e.g., by Being Tea, and participate in tea tastings. I will become a member of the American Specialty Tea Alliance.

My goal is to visit different tea plantations in North America, and other places around the world. I will visit Sweden’s second tea plantation (Greta’s tea) in the making later on this moth, and I want to visit Camellia Sinensis Gotland in the near future.

After doing some introspection, listening to fellow podcasters on different topics (e.g., hobby versus indie podcasters, and so called procasters / mainstream media radio broadcasters), and checking my book plan, I have decided to mix it up a bit and test a new podcast format and I will develop my workflow, over a period of time.

This post has percolated for a couple of days, so I want to say cheers to the attendees at the podcasting conference, Podcast Movement.

As my thoughts on the future on my podcasting have been sinking in and I have "chewed" on the challenges with the workflow of EGO NetCast, I stumbled upon a transcription service called Trint , thanks to Fizzle's blog post (10 Killer Links for Entrepreneurs in 2017) for Fizzle Show podcast, episode 226.

After I have finished tinkering and pondering, I have to catch up with the backlog of my guests provided by PodcastGuests.com.

In November I will talk about the future of podcasting regarding new technologies, trends, and the potentialities for the podcast industry, at a podcast conference in Stockholm. The talk will be for 40 minutes with 5 minutes for Q&A. The target audience is communication professionals (marketing managers, public relation officers, etc.)

#ThisIsMyMessage is the hashtag for the podcast documentary, The Messengers. My podcast, EGO NetCast, will be mentioned in the credits of the film, as I have been one of the backers of the crowdfunding campaign for the making of this movie. I recently purchased The Messengers black t-shirt via TeeChip.

I am thinking of using this service for the crowdfunding campaign for my first forthcoming book on (black) tea (#teaFTWbook). I have registered an account on Red Bubble, after reading a post on Small Business Trends. I have added John Cox's caricature of Ralph Waldo Emerson and his tea quote:

I have been thinking about my struggle with the workflow of this podcast, compared with the "flow" I have together with my co-host, Johan Gustaphzon, on Produktivitéet (productivity + tea = "productivitea" in Swedish). EGO Podcaster is Just Doing It

This is a meta episode of EGO NetCast, spending some time on the development of my podcasting. I recently reached a milestone of 500 downloads of my conversation with Jon Ferrara.

Could this be my break, after 10 years, since I started my first podcast on Soild Vox?

I am including a screen dump of the general stats from the dashboard of my Libsyn account. You could see a nice trend line over a period of 3 months.

Did you know that overall median download number is 173 on Libsyn?

I have been thinking of the future of my podcasting for some time.

A Direct Message question from Chris Reimer on podcasting, made my day, giving me another sign that I am on the right way, if I stick with it for the long run…

I have subscribed to Karin Hoegh's e-course on podcasting. In the second issue she talks about what is the meaning of having a podcast and what should come out of your podcasting. Her email gave me food for thought and here are my answers to the questions on goal, strategy, ambition and success factor.

My goal is to spread better ideas regarding new media, business philosophy, and the good life (including tea).
The strategy is to give moral support and resources to business minded individuals, in an educational, engaging and entertaining way.
My ambition is to give the listeners and readers food for thought, and inspire them to take action and achieve their values through social media, business and personal activities. They should feel free to reach out to me, if they are interested to learn more about the good life, including tea drinking.
The success factor is to continue with solo shows and interviews as a guide for implementing ideas into actions, based on the teachings from Lyceum, Aristotle's school in Athens, and others that have beeninspired by his philosophy, e.g., Will Durant.

I will create my own success by participating in Fizzle's course, Start a Blog that Matters. [Editor's note: Affiliate links.]

In the next solo show I will talk about my struggle with the podcasting workflow, and I will mention guests in the pipeline, ways to support EGO NetCast, etc.

Food for Thought

I want you to relate my podcast show with a thoughtful broadcast, so I have now added the subtitle, Food for Thought, in iTunes.

The take-away from this episode, could be: customer service is the key, and the workflow of a producing a podcast could be daunting… ;)

[Editor's note: I saved the recording as wave file, and then tried to export through Audacity. I got a "lame" error message, and tried with Garageband instead. I managed to export it as a M4A file, after I tried with the MP3 format without success. When do you think the M4A file will become the most popular format out there? Why isn't Apple promoting this standard (Apple Lossless / M4A) more?]

Back to the Future Just In Time

I am back with a new episode of EGO NetCast. It is in a Just-In-Time mode, on the last day of January. My goal is to have four podcast episodes per month; two interviews lined-up and two solo shows, answering questions and talking with fellow podcasters.

The take-away from this episode together with Palle Frid Svensson, could be to commit to action and "just do it"… Are you a procrastinator?

Thanks to Palle for helping me with editing of the recording in Ableton Live (at the studio) and Audacity (at home). [Editor's note: I am still dabbling with an old version of Garageband ('09, version 5.1), and I wonder if I should upgrade to Garageband 10 (without "support for creating enhanced podcasts"). How about Logic Pro X?]
